On March 29, 2011, The Brothers of Delta Tau Delta participated in the annual Moravian College Blood Drive held by C3. With their combined donation, the Brothers saved the lives of over 10 different people. Also with their choice to give blood the Brothers join a very select group of philanthropic individuals. Currently only three percent of Americans donate blood. The mission to maintain a safe and stable blood supply for those in need is important to the American healthcare system and Delta Tau Delta has no problem setting the example.

Holi is a Hindu spring festival that is celebrated for two to five days, honoring Krishna’s dalliance with the cowgirls. Bonfires are lit and colored powder and water thrown over the participants. The Theta Tau Chapter again proves that it is quite proud to continue their history of both ethnic and religious tolerance.

Delta Tau Delta at Moravian College this semester has made impressive efforts towards the fight against ALS. All semester they have been partnering with the Philadelphia Chapter of the ALS Association in order to raise both money and awareness for this devastating disease.

The ALS Association is an American nonprofit organization that raises money for research and patient services, promotes awareness about and advocates in state and federal government on issues related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The Brothers of Delta Tau Delta chose to take up this cause as the request of Brother Rey Benschop. Brother Benschop was unfortunate enough to lose his father to ALS five years ago. The Brothers happily agreed to support Brother Benschop raise awareness for the disease that claimed his father’s life.

The first event held this semester to raise money for the ALS Association was the 2nd Annual Volleyball Tournament. This year we were lucky enough to have over 20 teams from Lehigh, Lafayette, and Moravian College play. Which is double the amount of teams from last their previous tournament. The tournament overall raised over 600 dollars for to help fight ALS.

Barbara Bennet, our liaison with the ALS Association had this to say about the Volleyball Tournament. “You and your fraternity brothers had a fabulous volleyball tournament. Please let your fraternity know how much their support is appreciated.”

Delt did not just stop at the Volleyball Tournament as they also participated in the Lehigh Valley Walk To Defeat ALS on October 23, 2010. This event was a 2 miles walk that took place at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown. Together with Ruthie’s Pinch Hitters, Delta Tau Delta was able to raise 1,300 dollars for the event. The organization will continue their efforts to help fight ALS as they realize that it is a terrible disease that needs to be cured.

Much like every year, on October 24, 2009 Moravian College will open its doors to its alumni and welcome them back to campus. Alumni weekend is a time to reunite with classmates and faculty members. It provides opportunites for networking, exploring the campus of today, and a chance to once again experience some of the intellectual life of Moravian. In addition to this special yearly event, for the first time the college will be holding Homecoming Weekend in conjunction with Family Day. In the spirit of Homecoming/Family Day weekend, the Theta Tau chapter will be throwing a BBQ in addition to our participation in the parade. As alumni of not only the college but our chapter, we would be honored if you would join us in the festivities. Feel free to bring your family members so that they too can experience this fall celebration.
